Weekend

Finally, an afternoon to read, relax, be together as a family. It seems that life for the Potter family is on overdrive. Yesterday I went with friends Helga and Wilma to White Water Nature Preserve to paint with PAAR. It is a lovely place, pretty lodge, trout ponds, river, set between canyon walls. We settled into our painting and within five minutes the wind attacked. We had canvas, paint, paper towels and brushes flying down the parking lot. In spite of this we managed to get some very fast little paintings done, and had an enjoyable picnic lunch. On our way home Helga took us to her favorite German grocery store. I bought pickles, Rye bread, marzipan and Haribo bears.

During this time Franz and the girls went down to Redlands to pick up some painting for me, and to buy MaCall's birthday gift. We all met up at the house, then turned around and drove back down the mountain with friend Brett, where MaCall had a violin practice for Stake conference. We then went out to dinner - a vintage type Mexican place down town San Bernardino - Brett is courageous - 0r dumb. There was a lively 25th anniversary party going on, but they seated us in the back. It was fun and the food was good.

Today we braved the storm - the one the wind was bringing in - and made it back down for Stake Conference - the music was very good. Afterward we were making our way through the building to get to the rear entrance, when we lost MaCall. Franz and I looked into the cultural hall and found her surrounded by a group of boys from the Lake Arrowhead Ward - complimenting her on her performance - one was the lead in music man - so I had to tease her about actually being spoken to by THE Music Man! She seemed pleased with the attention.

Now we are home and have enjoyed the afternoon. There was a concert to go to today, but Franz has had enough with driving so we stayed home.

Above is the old Arrowhead Hotel after the storm - I think Southern Cal is actually pretty when it storms. It is because the water saturates the ground, making more contrast and color. The inky clouds also provide shadows on the mountains, light coming through in patches - making it far more visually interesting than the usual washed out browns and ochres.

Also, above are the two Lucy's. Perfect Sunday afternoon!

I kind of love that MaCall is being flirted with. It also scares me.
