Sunflower Forts

They tell us that rain is on it's way, so today we decided to plant some sunflowers. I had a brilliant idea - to go into the empty lot and plant sunflower walls for the girl's "fort" which is just a clearing in the shrubs. Franz and MaCall cleared and hoed, Eloise planted. We then decided to beautify the lot by planting seeds randomly in sunny spots. We planted them along the base of our terraces and scattered them in the wind. This summer might just find our surrounding area a sea of sunflowers! We still have thousands more to plant. But have done enough for today.

I have always wanted to plant a sunflower house. You just map out a square, leave a spot for a door, plant giant sunflowers. When they get about four feet tall you plant morning glory between the sunflowers to climb up the stocks decorating the walls of your house. When they get to six feet tall you use twine to close in your roof.

Our sunflowers did so well last year, that I am hoping this will be the year of the sunflower fort.

I am also celebrating spring with new sandals - my broken foot required something sturdy - so found a really cute pair of Born sandals (only slightly used, can't tell at all) on E-bay for a really good deal! They came today and I am very happy with them. I just wish my left foot would get back to normal size - it is still on the puffy side.

that fort looks so fun. hope it works out for you guys. i got your message and "planted" my bag of seeds today. And by planting i mean, threw them in the so called soil in a corner of our plant bed that gets great morning sun. we'll see what happens. i am excited to see if it works!

wish we could go tomorrow with you guys. have fun!
