Parvo, Pain and Serena

As most of you know Serena has Parvo which is similar to Chronic Fatigue. Serena has severe fatigue and this fall currently has 4 hours a day of energy. (Though this will change in November!) Her other symptoms include brain fog, restless leg and severe pain. Unfortunately tonight the pain aspect was underlined with avidity! As some of you may know we have a large and growing fire south of us that is growing quickly. See photo below!

Well tonight we decided to go to the rim and see the fire. We drove up to Rim of the World High School, pulled over and Serena went to take pictures (which did not turn out). On returning to the car Serena slipped and fell, scraping her leg and knee up. The pain must have been horrible, not like the pain we feel ...(Eloise has had many a scrape), this pain intensified until it was almost unbearable. It is hard for her family to understand what she goes though...and two hours later she is still writhing on the couch in utter pain. It is hard, even after 6 years of dealing with Parvo, to understand the subtle nuances of this disease. Chronic fatigue is one thing...we are continually learning to adjust to her needs...one day she is fine rising at 8:00 and other days it is best not to get her up till 10:00...but pain is different as we cannot really understand the extent to which she is suffering. Anyhow, even after 6 years we are still learning about Parvo and Serena continues to adjust to this horrid malady.
