While Serena looooves old movies, I looooove Zombie flicks. I just rented a 1980s thriller....Zombie Lake! The French can really do zombie flicks...just think about Living Dead Girls...add water saturated Nazis and a town in a denial and you have this winner. Actually the movie was not that good, a solid two stars, but well worth the hour and a half down time. The acting was poor and the special effects...well worthless, but we don't watch zombie movies for their arthouse quality. Really zombie movies are like some Gothic novels....formulaic and poorly written, nevertheless, they are interesting and quite enjoyable.
Other thoughts:
Serena continues to really struggle this fall and it is very frustrating. The last time I can recall this bad of an attack was in England when she first developed Parvo. Not good. This brings up healthcare...I still believe that healthcare is a human right not a privilege....what BS to say that because someone cannot afford to visit a doctor they can't....don't even get me started on this one.
Prop 8...I am so sick of this issue! Every freaking Sunday we get more. I walked out of church two weeks ago when a high council member read, no really, read items from a website for his entire talk....this is too much. Since I am still opposed to the measure (and even if I wasn't I wouldn't tell you) we have had to endure visits from the Elder's quorum presidency and the missionaries making sure that I wouldn't say anything when teaching Elder's quorum on Sunday. And please don't say..."well the prophet told us to..." this is one weak argument as he also told us to get out of debt (are you?) to have food storage (do you?) to live within our means (do we?) and even avoid pride....and yet some members are so proud of themselves that they brag about how much money and time they have devoted...going so far as to question anyone's testimony who doesn't do as much as them....pathetic really. Enough!

Bravo, Franz!
Prop 8?
Hang in there my brother, I know how you feel. Our ward started out being very low key and civil about prop 8 but perhaps in conjunction with the poll numbers looking stronger for the "no" side of things, the heat has been turned up! I'll tell you more this weekend.
Annette, Proposition 8 is a measure on our california State ballot (voting in November). If passed it would change our state constitution to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry.
A yes defines marriage as between a man and woman only. The church has strongly encouraged members to put time and money into this cause. People in each ward have stake callings to organize the fight. We hear about it in every meeting. The thing is that there are many who though they support our church's view of marriage and view homosexuality as an immoral offence against God, also feel that our country is based on equal rights to all. Along with the definition of marriage are the rights that go with it. The church is affraid of losing it's tax free status in the event that homosexuals demand the right to be married in our churches. If denied the church could lose that status. It is rather messy. On one side you have members that really feel the church should stay out of polititcs and then you have those who feel they should do it because they have been asked to. For many it is an emotional issue. If you are not supporting the cause you are seen as apostate. In Sunday school the lesson was on the strippling warriers. They pointed out that those who knocked on doors passing out fliers for prop 8 were warriers, those who did not are fence sitters and need to dtermine if they are on the Lord's side.
Wow, I'm glad you posted more info on Prop 8. Sounds very frustrating and complicated. This goes back to what Serena said about people speaking up for what they believe in - when you're in the minority in a group setting, you tend not to speak up and then it's no longer a debate, but a tirade in favor of one viewpoint. I'm sure it's challenging to balance some of your political views with views of the church.
Thanks Franz
I just feel sad that it has become such a devisive issue in CHURCH. and I am really surprised to hear that there is a calling in conjunction with it. strange. good luck - I am sure every ones intentions are good - but people are people, unfortunately.
