A place gone by

This past week my mother has been visiting. One day we drove over to the Arrowhead Springs Hotel. It is closed to the public now, but there was an elderly black man named Mr. Jones who is at the gate house. I told him Mom had been there many years ago and just wanted to take a few photos, so he let us pass and told us we could drive through the grounds as long as we did not try to get near the hot springs - which are piles of steaming, bubbling, rocks and pools. The hotel was a big star attraction, right below the Arrowhead on the mountain, during the 20's through 50's. The grounds are kept up but all is quite now. It was very interesting driving around. The pool was built for Esther Williams -the star who did all of the fancy swimming movies. I hope it gets restored and does not go the way of so many of the old places. On our way out Mr. Jones gave mom an old room key. She liked that.

That hotel is really nice looking. The pool looks like fun! Hope you are having fun with your mom visiting. I've been missing your postings. Hope to see you soon.
