June with the Potters
Okay, I have been procrastinating on this. I meant to write wonderful things about Franz for his birthday. I meant to do the same for Father's Day. I didn't. Not that he didn't deserve them. He is wonderful and we appreciate all he is and does.
Saturday was the big party. We planted flowers, cleaned carpets and rugs, touched up paint on the house and bought a new shower curtain. We borrowed a table and chairs, birthday banner and cupcake stands (from Heidi). That morning it was beautiful. We set up the back yard as a vision of plein air dining. Then the fog rolled in and the temperature dropped. By the time the party started all of the seating and eating was outside, but all of the people were inside huddled in our living room, refusing to come out! We even had MaCall's quartet set up where our dining table usually is. They sounded great and all in all everyone seemed to enjoy themselves anyhow. These things happen. Franz made great pizzas on his new grill. I hope 40 won't be too bad for him!
Of course, I had the camera out to take pictures and the only pictures taken were of me, Addison, Elias and Michele and MaCall (Addy was there!) decorating the cupcakes. I failed again!
This week I interview at the Laguna College of Art and Design for their MFA program. It is a good program but things have been so stressful here that my attitude at this point is whatever. They either like me or they don't. I won't worry one way or the other. If they do like me then I will worry about the funding, transport and weather a forty year old woman can cut grad school - one who has been chronically ill for seven years. I think I can though...
School is out and the girls seem pretty happy about that. Eloise received award after award at her end of school ceremony. Highest grade point average, no assignments missed, over two million words read, fastest typist, Silver Presidential award .. it goes on and after a while a parent starts to feel a big sheepish - "we are sorry they missed out on your kid...". It is great though to have such a responsible, hard working girl. We are still waiting to see how MaCall finished the year. Finals were the last week of school so we wait...
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the family members who are currently without jobs or who have taken big cuts. It is tough out there!

Hi you guys,
I wish so badly we could've been there! Happy Belated Birthday, Franz.
40 is Fabulous!!! We miss you all!
Love and hugs.
Oh! Congratulations,Eloise. You are one super-duper young lady! Good for you!!! From your Auntie.
Nice to see you on blogger Claudia!
Wish we could have made it to the party. Wow-I am so impressed with Eloise, congratulations! What is a parents' secret to successful children??
Read to them, read to them, read to them, and then take them places - give them lots of experiences - along with all the other stuff, love, the gospel etc.
It also helps if they've got natural intelligence and ability! Well done Eloise :)
Good luck with the MFA program!!
Good for Eloise! That's my girl. :)
Wish we all lived a bit closer so we could enjoy family functions-like 40th b-days. Good luck with the interview process. It is my hope that someday I will get myself back to school for a masters program. Happy summer! How fun to have the girls home and to have done so well this year!
