The Idiots are out!
I have been in a bad mood this week, partially because of my eating habits, but mostly because I have come to the conclusion that some people are just idiots. Not all people mind you, but a large number. Crestline, at times, seems to have an abundance of these idiots walking around. Twice now, when I have parked our car, I have been confronted by angry men about my Obama bump sticker. "Hey dumb ass....yeah, I'm talking to you, dumb ass" Not once, but twice this has happened and I have a real problem with this behavior. Not only is it childish, it is bullying. So basically it comes down to this: You don't believe the same as I and that gives me the right to call you names...is that it? Lame!
Oh, believe me,I would love to yell at all the people who have a Bush sticker on their car, but I don't. I'm not in the second grade and I respect an individual's views, even if I don't agree with them. Is it asking too much to expect the same? I thought we lived in America where one was allowed to express their views without fear of retribution...instead we live in a society that barely tolerates the other half. I realize that democrates and republicans are both equally guilty of this behavior, but it has to stop.
Unfortunately, I have never been very quick at comebacks and after the last confrontation all I could yell was a lame "Yeah...so there." Here, likely, is my major problem...I didn't respond as well as I could have. I didn't say what I really wanted to say.
Perhaps the reason for this lies in the fact that I promised my family that I would not use any inappropriate language when responding to idiots or bad drivers. This promise, well intended, threw off my game. Okay, seriously, I know I have never had the wit to response creatively to insults, but that is not the point. I guess the point is really this...I think people are too intolerant of others. Earlier this year our Sunday School class actually listed tolerance and diversity as tools of the devil. Give me a freaking break. There is not enough tolerance of others...we are scared of diversity...clinging to our ignorance as a tightly as a pillow. Get over it. Accept others who are different from you and stop calling people names who may have a different point of view...grow up!
Anyhow, the family is well and I think I feel better now.

Wow, people really are stupid. I can't believe your ward said that tolerance and diversity are tools of the devil. That's just weird. *hugs*
heavy. especially because I have always thought of California as SO liberal. I mean your governor is a republican, but he is also a HUMV driving actor. am I wrong?
wait, that made no sense.
Ok the OC is Rep. and every other part of the state is Dem.
So While I'm not surprised, I am surprised they called you names and such. You do need to work on your come back, Try the old fav. "Bush lies people die"
But on the tolerance idea. I think you teacher was saying that tolerance of evil is a tool of the devil, not general tolerance. But you were in the class and I was not. So on the little info you gave I can in my mind agree, but I can also see how I would agree with you depending on the context.
So in ending, are you some kind of idiot? How can you have an Obama sticker on your car?
I agree Craig that tolerance of evil is wrong, but unfortunately I felt the tone in the class at the time was discussing individuals rather than their actions...that is what upset me. Sometims people up here really surprise and it does remind me of the OC in their rhetoric, but in practice is it less refined.
Of course I still have an Obama sticker..."Bush lies people die"...we need change.
We need to get together sometime this spring. I am doing some work on the outside next month and when it is done perhaps we can have you over for a BBQ! Later.
Tolerance and diversity - tools of the devil?? They must be joking. Sounds a bit political if you ask me. Yuck!
I'm sorry you had to deal with that. I know I would just be speechless if someone approached me like that in public, simply because I would be surprised by that kind of abrasiveness from a total stranger.
We are speechless about that comment from your Sunday School class. It seems to be something that a higher authority in the church should know about and perhaps correct. Coming from an L.D.S. background - in fact, coming from any Christian faith - that type of idea really doesn't seem to be a teaching of the church, nor a Christlike quality.
For scriptural reference...
Moroni 7:14
Wherefore, take heed, my beloved brethren, that ye do not judge that which is evil to be of God, or that which is good and of God to be of the devil.
Mosiah 29:12
Now it is better that a man should be judged of God than of man, for the judgments of God are always just, but the judgments of man are not always just.
Romans 2:1
Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

Oh how I hate stuff like that. and knowing how not confrontational you are Franz I feel your pain. I can talk a big game but when someone pops off with a rude comment I too am taken back. You need to have a ready comeback for any situation. A good general "in your face, not too rude" comment. If it was too rude back you would just be stooping down to their level.
Now for your teacher. WHAT?? It's like they say--the gospel is perfect the people are not. tolerance and diversity are two hugely important things we need to have in this world. To call them tools of the devil is adsurd. Perhaps that teacher has had too many instances in his own life that he has had to deal with. I knew there was a reason I didn't attend Sunday School.
Ok next time this happens retort:
"Wow thanks for reminding me, I almost forgot what a dumbass I am, but then it takes one to know one."

He should have said "ah, there is is your problem, you are trying to think with the wrong end".
